Why Do I Need to Regularly Change My HVAC Air Filter?

As a Reno HVAC company, we see far too many dirty air filters. We would like to take the time to educate you about why regularly changing your filters is so important to your heating system this winter. Changing furnace and return air filters is crucial to the proper performance of your home heating system. This is important not only for the continued efficiency of your system but also affects indoor air quality and the longevity of your system.

A clogged, dirty filter reduces the air flow into your home. This air flow is essential to circulating heat throughout your home and keeping you warm efficiently. Reduced air flow means heating only one portion of your home and reduces the overall heating effects. Without flow, your HVAC system has to work harder and longer to try to meet the temperature settings you’ve set on your thermostat. The harder the system works, the less efficient and the higher your utility bills will be.

The result of a dirty filter decreases the lifespan of your system.  An HVAC system that is working longer and harder due to dust build up is likely to break. If you need help with your HVAC system this winter, please contact us for a free estimate.
